General Information

Attendance Policy

Preamble

Attendance very often directly relates to the degree of success or failure in studies and becomes an essential part of the file permanently available to employers and post high school learning institutions. Records of attendance should be considered of great consequence since they reflect habits of responsibility and state of health. Activities that take place in the classroom are a vital part of the teaching-learning process and a day lost from class can never be recaptured. The dialogue between the student and teacher will not be duplicated.

Students of District 6 are expected to be successful. The educational staff believes that regular attendance maximizes the learning potential of each student. The parents/guardians, the student and the school share the responsibility to work cooperatively to maintain a high standard of attendance. They also share the responsibility for providing additional support for each student who is experiencing difficulty in maintaining regular attendance. Teachers will attempt to contact parents each time a student is absent.

Goal

To promote regular attendance thus enhancing scholastic achievement.

Objective

To provide a manageable plan for monitoring attendance and to provide additional support for each student who is experiencing difficulty in maintaining regular attendance.

Guidelines and Procedures

Any student thought to be having attendance or tardiness problems will be informed by a teacher or an administrator of the problem. At this time, or if the problem persists, a letter will be sent home advising the parents of the situation. It may be necessary at this time to meet with the student and parents to make attempts at solving the problem.
